Taskrabbit Terms of Service: Five Clauses Taskers Should Read First

This page is general information, not legal advice.

The Taskrabbit Global Terms of Service are a contract between you and TaskRabbit, Inc. They also bring in other documents, including the Privacy Policy, Taskprotect and the Fees, Payments and Cancellation Supplemental Terms. This page reviews the version last updated July 25, 2026, from the point of view of a Tasker in the United States. Five clauses shift cost or risk onto you. For each one, you get the exact wording, why it matters and what to ask for instead. Taskers can rarely negotiate platform terms, so treat this as a checklist. Rules vary by jurisdiction, and the terms have separate sections for Canada, Germany and other countries.

1. Taxes, insurance and licenses are all on you

Taskrabbit is neither responsible nor liable for workers’ compensation or any tax payment or withholding ... The Tasker assumes full and sole responsibility for all required and applicable income tax and social contributions such as Social Security or National Insurance Contribution withholdings as to the Tasker and all persons engaged by the Tasker in the performance of the Task Services.

Why it works against you

The terms call Taskers "independent business owners" who set their own rates. That also means every business cost falls on you. You promise to keep, at your own expense, any required licenses and permits, and "all insurance required to operate your business and perform the Tasks." Taskrabbit "does not independently verify" licenses. It also warns that doing certain Tasks without one "may result in law enforcement action and/or penalties or fines." If you bring in Tasker Assistants, you're responsible for their pay and tax withholdings too. See independent contractor agreement red flags.

What to ask for instead

Sample wording to propose: "Before a Tasker accepts a Task category, Taskrabbit will flag categories that commonly require a license or insurance in the Tasker's area."

2. A perpetual license to your content and likeness

To the extent permitted by law, you hereby grant Taskrabbit, for the full duration of all rights that may exist in the User Generated Content (including any legal extensions thereof), a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, fully-paid, unrestricted, sublicensable (through multiple tiers), transferable right and license to publish, reproduce, ... in any media, form or technology now known or later developed, including (without limitation) in connection with any advertising, marketing, and/or publicizing of the Platform, without any approval by, or compensation to, you.

Why it works against you

User Generated Content includes photos, recordings and anything you post on your profile. The license also covers your "Likeness": "your name, username, image, silhouette and other reproductions of your physical likeness, voice" and biographical details. Taskrabbit can use it "including on websites, social media platforms and third-party digital platforms." You also give up moral rights, and you release claims "for defamation, malicious falsehood, invasion of right to privacy" connected to that use. Nothing in the clause ends the license when you leave. See perpetual content licenses explained.

What to ask for instead

Sample wording to propose: "Taskrabbit may use a Tasker's Likeness in advertising only with the Tasker's separate opt-in consent, and that use stops within a reasonable period after the Tasker closes their account."

3. Suspension on suspicion, and 14 days to appeal

In the event of an actual or suspected breach by you of any part of the Agreement (including, without limitation, abuse, fraud or interference with the proper working of the Platform), Taskrabbit may (a) suspend your right to use the Platform pending its investigation; and/or (b) deactivate your account or limit your use of the Platform upon its confirmation of a breach. ... If you wish to appeal any determination made by Taskrabbit pursuant to this Section, please contact us ... within 14 days of receipt of such notice with the grounds for your appeal.

Why it works against you

A suspected breach is enough to suspend you, and the terms don't say how long an investigation can take. Written notice is given "in accordance with, and as required by, applicable laws," so what you're owed depends on where you live. You get 14 days to appeal, and Taskrabbit reviews its own decision. You also can't open a new account under another name. For Taskers who rely on the platform, a suspension means income stops straight away. Claims about deactivation fall under the arbitration agreement (see clause 5).

What to ask for instead

Sample wording to propose: "Suspensions pending investigation will last no more than a stated number of days, and the notice will name the specific rule and the evidence relied on. Taskers will have at least 30 days to appeal."

4. You indemnify Taskrabbit for your Tasks

If you are a Tasker, you shall indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Taskrabbit and Affiliates from and against any and all Liabilities incurred in connection with (i) your use of, inability to use, or participation on, the Platform; (ii) your participation in Tasks, or your ability or inability to perform Tasks or to receive payment therefor; (iii) your breach or violation of the Agreement; ... (v) any User Generated Content and/or Feedback submitted by or about you or using your account to the Platform

Why it works against you

The trigger isn't limited to your own fault. Merely "participation on" the Platform, or Feedback written about you, can count. Taskrabbit can choose "to assume the exclusive defense and control" of the matter, and "You will not, in any event, settle any claim or matter without the prior written consent of Taskrabbit." So you may pay for a defense you don't control. See indemnification clauses explained.

What to ask for instead

Sample wording to propose: "The Tasker's indemnity applies only to the extent losses are caused by the Tasker's negligence, wilful misconduct or breach of the Agreement."

5. Arbitration, unless you opt out within 30 days

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, this includes, but is not limited to, claims related to payments, any city, county, state or federal wage and hour law, compensation, meal or rest breaks, expense reimbursement, wrongful termination, ... or the threatened or actual suspension or deactivation of your account; ... if you are a Tasker, you may opt out of the Arbitration Agreement by notifying Taskrabbit in writing within 30 days of your agreement to these Terms of Service.

Why it works against you

Pay disputes, worker classification and deactivation claims go to individual arbitration, with a class action waiver and a representative PAGA waiver. To opt out, you have to mail a signed notice with your username, name, address, phone, email and a clear opt-out statement. If you already accepted an earlier arbitration clause that let you opt out, opting out now only covers this version's changes. Some parts help you: hearings take place remotely or in your billing county, Taskrabbit pays AAA fees for claims up to USD $10,000 (unless the claim is found frivolous), and small claims and agency reports are excluded. See mandatory arbitration clauses explained. Whether this applies to you is a question for a qualified lawyer.

What to ask for instead

Sample wording to propose: "Taskers may opt out of arbitration at any time by email or in their account settings, without a signed paper notice."

Also worth a look

If Taskrabbit is liable, its total liability to a Tasker is capped at "THE TOTAL TASK PAYMENTS PAID TO YOU BY CLIENTS IN THE 6 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE TIME SUCH CLAIM AROSE" (Source: https://www.taskrabbit.com/terms, retrieved 2026-10-30). See limitation of liability clauses explained. Changes to the terms take effect when posted, although for material changes "you will be informed in advance." If you reject them, you have to deactivate your account. California law governs for U.S. users. For comparison, see Upwork Terms of Service explained and Fiverr Terms of Service explained.
