Check an employment contract before you sign it
Once you accept, the terms are hard to change. ScanMyTerms reads your contract or offer letter and ranks the clauses that limit your pay, your future jobs and your own projects.
What it flags
Broad non-compete
Long duration or wide geography can keep you out of your field.
Employer owns everything you create
Including side projects made on your own time and equipment.
Bonus or training clawbacks
Leaving can mean paying money back.
Unilateral changes to duties or location
The job you accept may not be the job you keep.
Unpaid overtime folded into salary
"Reasonable additional hours" with no limit.
Long notice for you, short notice for them
Notice periods should run both ways.
Questions
Is my contract stored?
Not the file: it's normally read in your browser, and photos are read and discarded, never stored. The text is usually erased as soon as the scan finishes. The report, which quotes short passages from your contract, is deleted 7 days after it's created.
What does it cost?
The risk count and the first two findings are free. The full report is a one-time $5 per document, with no subscription.
Is this legal advice?
No. ScanMyTerms flags commercial risks so you know what to question. For anything significant, talk to a qualified lawyer.
