Check an NDA before you sign it
NDAs look standard, which is why people sign them unread. ScanMyTerms flags the clauses that reach further than confidentiality, and shows the wording to push back on.
What it flags
"Confidential Information" covers everything
No carve-outs for public or already-known information.
Obligations that never end
Confidentiality should normally expire after a set number of years.
A non-compete or non-solicit tucked inside
It limits who you can work with, not just what you can say.
One-way when the exchange is mutual
You are bound, they are not.
Residuals clause
Lets the other side reuse what they remember of your information.
Penalties fixed in advance
Liquidated damages can far exceed any real loss.
Questions
Is my contract stored?
Not the file: it's normally read in your browser, and photos are read and discarded, never stored. The text is usually erased as soon as the scan finishes. The report, which quotes short passages from your contract, is deleted 7 days after it's created.
What does it cost?
The risk count and the first two findings are free. The full report is a one-time $5 per document, with no subscription.
Is this legal advice?
No. ScanMyTerms flags commercial risks so you know what to question. For anything significant, talk to a qualified lawyer.
