Check a freelance contract before you sign it
Client contracts are written by the client. ScanMyTerms reads yours and ranks the clauses that put your pay, your time and your work at risk, with the exact wording and what to ask for instead.
What it flags
Payment only on "client satisfaction"
No objective acceptance test means payment can be withheld indefinitely.
Net 60 or Net 90 terms with no late fee
You finance the client's cash flow for free.
Unlimited revisions
Scope with no ceiling turns a fixed fee into an open-ended job.
All IP transfers on signing
Rights should move when you are paid, not before.
Termination for convenience without a kill fee
The client can walk away mid-project and owe you nothing for work done.
Uncapped liability and indemnity
A small gig can carry an unlimited downside.
Questions
Is my contract stored?
Not the file: it's normally read in your browser, and photos are read and discarded, never stored. The text is usually erased as soon as the scan finishes. The report, which quotes short passages from your contract, is deleted 7 days after it's created.
What does it cost?
The risk count and the first two findings are free. The full report is a one-time $5 per document, with no subscription.
Is this legal advice?
No. ScanMyTerms flags commercial risks so you know what to question. For anything significant, talk to a qualified lawyer.
